I’m pretty excited to run this deck in Ranked once the season starts again. One of my favorite archetypes got an upgrade and I don’t see enough people talking about it.

Previously if you wanted the Will paralysis+poison combo, you had to run Drapion or Tentacruel. But both of these options require 3 energy, which is just way too slow. Amoongus can now perform this feat at 2 energy, with the downside of slightly less HP and attack damage, but the tradeoff is very worth it.

Biggest weakness of this deck is poison denial, or the dreaded iggly+Darkrai combo. But since that deck beats almost everything I’m not sure it’s reasonable to expect counterplays here. Fighting decks are beatable but tough to win against. Single-prize decks like Hydreagon can also be difficult. But if the opponent runs any EX or Mega, Amoongus does really well into those, since you can just trap and kill them.

The decklist/archetype is actually pretty flexible this time around. I’m currently running a Hiking Trail version of this deck, which I think is very strong, but Hiking Trail isn’t mandatory at all. Feel free to cut it and also cut the 2 capes if you want to experiment with other options.

Where there’s a Will, there’s a way (Amoongus poison deck)
