Looking to recreate picture, need as many details of location as possible

My cousin in 2007 I think somewhere near MT Evans (now MT Blue sky) in Colorado. He was killed a few months after this picture was taken but spoke so fondly of the trip. I am going in October and would like to get as close to this spot as I can, trail names or anything would be very much appreciated. I know some of the roads may be closed that time of year but hoping to be able to get to this spot. Thanks in advance for any insight and sorry about picture quality it is the only copy I have.
