How do I request multiple trials as a first time contact user?
I, F28, went for an eye exam last week and decided to add contact lenses to my exam because I was interested in having the option of not wearing glasses every day. For reference, I went to Americas best and payed for an eye club subscription because I have no insurance.
The appointment seemed fine, but to determine the trial lenses the doctor asked me no questions about my lifestyle/intended use and automatically ordered Sofmed Breathables XW. At the time, I thought these would be dailies because I am a first timer and figured they’re just the standard recommendation to start with. Upon looking into the lenses I discovered these are monthlies, which will not work for me for a myriad of reasons but the most pressing one is that I will at most be wearing contacts 2x a week. I already called and spoke with them and they said I would need to come in for the trial/follow up before requesting a different trial.
To my question, what is the experience people have had with testing multiple trial lenses? How do I request multiple trial lenses at once, or is that even possible at Americas best? Also, how do I advocate for what I would like to try based on my personal needs and interest in specific features when it seems like the doctor is not listening? I know they’re going to push SofMed on me since it’s their brand, but based on the specs for the equivalent products and the reviews I’m not sure they’re going to work for me regardless and I’m not planning on ordering my contacts from Americas best unless they’ll do a price match. I know Americas best isn’t great, but I don’t have the option to go anywhere else so I need to make this work somehow.
