Drowning out curse words with song … how is this real

I teach first grade. I had a student cursing so bad today it was insane. Running around and jumping on tables and threatening and throwing things and cursing and just CHAOS. He was refusing to leave. Idk what came over me but I told all my students to sing “row row row your boat” really loud. And we did that. Over and over again til my student got mad and ran out of the room. And then we wrapped it up and all the kids cheered and high-fived. I just sat there like how is this real. So I let them do math free choice as a reward for handling the situation so well.

Definitely a tragic situation but I’m really glad that my students and I could find humor in it and not let it ruin our day. I’m also amused at my brain for coming up with that. Lmao. Happy weekend!!
