McDavid coming to San Jose is one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard.
He is no doubt the best player in the NHL. He was also on a team with mediocre defense, and bad goaltending for the 11 seasons he’s played in Edmonton. Bringing him to San Jose makes no sense no matter how you spin it. Neither Timeline, money, or need makes any sense.
The Sharks have a young phenom who is a decade younger than McDavid. The entire young core we are building around is 6-11 years younger than McDavid. As of right now this team has bad defense, and bad goaltending so why in hell are people wanting McDavid to come to San Jose as a 30 year old?
We’d be sacrificing the future for instant gratification. When the kids are due for their payday we’d be put in a terrible position. The amount of assets we’d have to give away make no sense to a rebuilding team who still doesn’t have defense or legitimate goaltending.
This team is ahead of schedule and is most likely 2-5 years away from being in serious contention. We already have decent offense that’s only going to get better once we have defenseman who can actually get the puck to our forwards and help the breakout. Our forwards spend all or most of their shift helping our horrendous defense get the puck out of the zone and by the time they get to the offensive zone they’re gassed and need to change.
Connor McDavid to our Sharks is a HUGE NO. As the Oilers have proven the past decade - having 2 of the top 5 players in the world isn’t good enough in a team sport. This isn’t the NBA.
For anyone that thinks this is a good idea, I’m genuinely curious why you think McDavid to San Jose would ever be a good idea considering our timeline, and personnel..do you want to become the oilers 2.0? 🤦♂️
