What’s wrong with IGK’s color kits?
Hey baddies! I’ve got a few questions/concerns about IGK’s Moon Dance permanent color kit and how my hair reacts to it. This is a long one. Sorry in advanced lol.
I naturally have chestnut brown hair. I’ve been using black box dye on my hair off and on for about 10 years. Mainly Schwarzkopf Keratin Color in Midnight Black, Schwarzkopf Color Ultime in Sapphire Black, and I think I used Garnier Nutrisse nourishing color in Blue Black a few times.
A few years ago I discovered IGK’s moon dance kit and gave it a try after reading reviews about it being much healthier and easy on hair. My hair looked and felt amazing! However, I noticed it faded quicker than the other dyes I used in the past, but it wasn’t that big of an issue. I used it twice a year.
2 years ago I used it as normal and noticed that it was washing out and fading extremely quickly. Every time I showered it would fade a shade lighter. After about 5 washes my hair was back to its natural shade. I discussed this with my hair stylist at the time and she said the developer in that particular kit most likely wasn’t strong enough or I didn’t follow directions properly. She gave me advice on what to do to get it to truly “stick” for when I use it again later in the year. Well…I did everything she said and the same happened. I decided to give up on that dye entirely.
Last year my partner treated me to getting my hair professionally colored at my old salon and my hair looked great! No washing out or fading. Fast forward to now. My hair is completely back to its original color and I’ve missed the black A LOT. I feel more like myself when it’s colored. I decided to try IGK’s kit again. I thought maybe…just maybe it will “stick” this time? Wrong. It’s even worse now! I dyed it last week. Washed my hair 4 times since then and it’s completely gone. Not only gone, but now my hair is LIGHTER than my natural color!!!
I’m at a loss right now. What is wrong with this dye? How does a permanent hair dye wash out and fade within a few washes? How does it turn my hair to a lighter shade? Why did it work somewhat well when I started using it a few years ago but now does this? Should I go back to one of the other dyes I used to use?
I wash my hair 3-4 times a week with a mix of Hask Biotin shampoo and VERB Density Peptide shampoo. Every other week I use Kristin Ess Clarifying shampoo once. I use a mix of VERB Curl conditioner and Hask Tea Tree Oil conditioner. I haven’t used other products in a while and I don’t use heat on my hair currently.
