ENHYPEN is evolving, not replacing Heeseung
After the concert today I’ve been thinking a lot about Enhypen and everything surrounding Heeseung’s departure. And honestly? A lot of the reactions lately are proving something I think people don’t want to admit : Some of you didn’t actually like all of Enhypen.
If you really liked the group, you wouldn’t expect six different members to suddenly sound like one person.
As an ENGENE since 2022, it always felt normal that Heeseung took up a lot of space. He’s extremely talented, and early on, the group needed that. He carried a lot vocally, and it made sense at the time.
But that was then.
Now, his absence leaves a gap, but it also creates space. Space for members who have clearly improved over the years to finally step forward. And instead of acknowledging that, people are acting like the group is vocally doomed.
That’s not criticism, that’s disrespect.
K-pop groups always have roles, even unofficial ones. Heeseung being the main vocalist meant other strong and versatile vocalists like Sunoo didn’t always get to fully showcase their range. Same with performance, Ni-ki used to dominate dance breaks, and now things are more balanced. That’s called collective growth.
So no, they don’t sound like Heeseung. And they’re not supposed to.
What’s weird is seeing people beg for him back, then turn around and complain that the members don’t replicate his tone, his style, his delivery… like what exactly are you expecting? A copy-paste version of him?
That’s not how a group works.
And saying the group “can’t survive vocally” without him is honestly one of the most insulting things you can say while labeling yourself an “ENGENE.” You’re not just criticizing, you’re writing off six artists who have been training and performing for years.
Are they different without him? Yes.
Are they incapable? Absolutely not.
If anything, what they did on tour is being overlooked. Imagine being in the background for 6 years and suddenly having to take on the lines of the strongest vocalist in the group and doing it live!!! That’s not easy, and they stepped up in a matter of two months. Most group would struggle with that, they didn’t.
This isn’t about replacing Heeseung. It’s about Enhypen evolving. And as harsh as it sounds, I think this shift is exposing who actually supports the group and Heeseung.
Honestly, I feel more confident in the group knowing that every member there genuinely wants to be there and prioritize the group. Not that Heeseung never did, but it seems like he reached a point where he wanted something different for his career, and I respect and support that.
And I know this might make some people uncomfortable, because it can sound like I don’t care about Heeseung or OT7 Enhypen. But that’s not true at all. I do, and I did for a long time. But I’m just not going to put words in their mouths or rewrite the situation to make it easier to accept.
At this point, I think it’s healthier to move forward, support OT6 Enhypen for what they are now, support Heeseung as a solo artist, and still appreciate what OT7 was without acting like it’s the only version of their lives that matters.
Lastly, they worked very hard, and with all of our expectations it must’ve been really challenging mentally so please let’s just give them lots of love and encouragement this time.
