Why Pet Insurance is So Important

Maine Coons are not cheap cats. When you are paying quite a bit for a kitten or a cat even, protecting them by having health insurance for them I believe is vital. Accidents happen. Illnesses occur. People say well I have a savings account specifically for my pet. Great! Problem is most people do not realize that one accident or illness has the potential to bankrupt you of your savings. An example would be your kitten got into something and swallowed it, developing a blockage. Your vet can't see you so you wind up at the er, where it's $12000 for the surgery and care to remove the blockage. I am not exaggerating. I have sadly faced this very situation and the owners sadly surrendered the kitten because they could not afford the bill. Insurance isn't always cheap. It may run around $100 per month but figure you pay approximately $1200 per year for what will hopefully never happen rather then $12000 for one issue. Just some food for thought. There are many different insurance companies for pets. Everyone is different. I advise doing your research and seeing which company fits your needs best. With our furry friends one can never be too careful.
