Job offer same week as positive test
Hello!
My husband and I couldn’t be happier that we have a positive test and are expecting. I’ve been flexible work-wise since we got married, growing my own photography business while managing end of life care for my 92 year old father (I am 31). My dad is actually now “graduated” from hospice and is stable and fine (he’s also excited for us!).
I’ve been speaking with a local developer since I left my job a few months before I got married and my dad got sick (at the same time in fall 2023). The roles started out with junior level to now basically my dream job with the company - director. They offered me today. I got the positive test on Monday. My last interview was last Friday.
I’ve asked to push the start date to June 1 so I can at least get one month of understanding about how my body is handling the first trimester nausea. I have not told them nor have I announced my pregnancy publicly.
The job really is a dream of mine but I am wary I won’t be able to show up 100% in a high pressure environment. I am also wary that I would not qualify for FMLA leave because I would be delivering at the 7 month-on-the-job mark basically and it usually takes at least 6 months to make a mark on a job, especially me entering an entirely new industry with new systems etc.
What should I do here? I am doubting the job timing and wondering if I should tell them my current status and roll the dice on if a similar position is open in another year from now. Because I wouldn’t qualify for leave, I literally think I would have to quit in order to have this baby and spend the first few months with my child. 6 weeks doesn’t feel like long enough.
