Is it normal to swap pictures on Reddit after months of speaking?

Settle a bet, my and my gf both met people of the opposite sex before we got together online. (Reddit then fb messenger) I’m telling her I don’t know what she looked like, she thinks I’m lying and it’s normal to ask after a certain point, even if nothing sexual or flirty was taking place. Who’s right? Is it weird to ask for pics, not ask for pics or are both normal.
