Does anyone know exactly how much pallet dropping is affected by ping?
For reference, I'm a 6.4K hour player who is around 50/50 Survivor/Killer, 98% solo queue on Survivor. Something I've noticed in all my time playing is that, playing Killer, I constantly face players who loop perfectly and can perfectly time pallet drop after pallet drop, often stunning me time and time again because it appears like they're too far away from the pallet to get a successful drop, or I'm close enough to them I should be able to short-swing and get a hit, yet over and over again, with that particular player, they get the stun and I get nothing. I even have moments where I'm so far into the pallet, I get shoved through it to the entire other side, and still don't get the short-swing hit, and the Survivor just vaults the now-downed pallet and escapes anyway, unharmed.
Then I play Survivor, and I'm getting chased into a pallet, and even though my character is over halfway through the pallet, I'll be jamming the button to drop the pallet, and nothing happens except me getting hit. Or I'll try doing what my opponents do and turn around to drop the pallet on time, and still won't drop it, and still get hit. No matter what I try, I just don't seem to be able to do what my opponents do with any kind of consistency.
I have cable Internet, not fiber, and like most people in the United States, I don't have any option on what provider I have, since the government has been so slow to label the Internet as a utility that most ISPs are still free to effectively operate as monopolies. My ping usually isn't terrible (around the 40-50ms range), but isn't the best, so I'm wondering, does anyone know how much not having the best Internet connection is going to impact my overall ability to work pallets as a Survivor?
