Could this NOT be metastasis? Confused about a persistent bone lesion
Hi everyone,
I’ve been dealing with something that’s been really hard to understand, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer almost 2 years ago. My subtype is hormone receptor positive (ER+/PR+), HER2 negative. I had no lymph node involvement, no angiolymphatic invasion, and overall my clinical features didn’t strongly suggest aggressive spread.
My Ki-67 varied, around 10% in multiple biopsies, but one sample showed about 40%.
I went through 16 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery (lumpectomy), and radiotherapy. I’m currently on hormone therapy (zoladex + anast).
Since my initial staging, there has been a single area of uptake in my pubic bone. The confusing part is that there has never been any evidence of disease anywhere else in my body, no other bone lesions, no organ involvement, nothing.
Over time, this lesion’s activity has decreased on scans, but it has not completely disappeared. I’ve also been on zoledronic acid (Zometa). It’s stable.
It’s now been almost 2 years since my diagnosis, and I’m still stuck with this question:
Could this NOT be metastasis?
I know bone metastases can behave differently, but I find it hard to understand how there would be a single stable lesion for this long, without progression anywhere else, especially given my initial pathology, with no lymph nodes and no vascular invasion.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Or has any doctor ever suggested a benign or non-metastatic explanation for something like this?
Thank you so much for reading 🤍
