Left-wing westerners are glazing China for a court ruling banning the replacement of workers with AI.

At first glance, this looks like a great ruling. But what it actually says is that businesses cannot fire workers if their adoption of AI is voluntary. Firing workers in response to involuntary circumstances such as natural disasters or regulatory changes is still permissible.

It basically means that replacing workers with AI is the government's decision, not the employer's.

And considering how much China is investing in AI, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens soon.
