Welcome to r/RateMyBarn — all barns welcome, honest scores guaranteed

For ages barns have been quietly holding things together: hay, livestock, the general idea of rural life. They deserve to be seen. This is a place for that. Post a photo of your barn, or a barn you love, or a barn you have complicated feelings about, and the community will consider it seriously and then give it a number.

The numbers go from 1 to 10. What separates a 6 from a 7 is a matter of ongoing debate. We’re working on it.

All barns welcome. Honest scores guaranteed. No barn has ever gotten a zero, though a few have come close.

Community Rules

  1. Post a barn. Not a garage. Not a shed. If you have to ask whether it’s a barn, it’s probably not a barn, though exceptions have been made and will likely be made again.

  2. One score per post. Pick a number between 1 and 10. Explain yourself if you feel moved to. Decimals are permitted but regarded with mild suspicion.

  3. Be honest. A bad barn rated honestly is worth more to everyone than a good barn rated out of politeness.

  4. Be kind. Someone built that barn. Someone has feelings about that barn. Keep that in mind.

  5. No barn has ever deserved a zero. If you’re considering posting a zero, reconsider. Then reconsider again.

  6. Barns from all regions, eras, and states of disrepair are welcome. A barn that is falling down is still a barn. Arguably it is more of a barn than it has ever been.
