Not sure how to grow in my career

Experienced Career Advice 🌳

I have 8 years of experience in my career now with the last 2 years in biotech. I work in data science originally coming from a clinical (healthcare) + statistics background. I started to enjoy programming quite a bit which is what lead me to my career path now - basically applying computer science/data science skills in the biotech space. But with increasing push for AI adoption and software engineering not being my primary background, I'm starting to feel more dumb than ever. Some of my team members are going all out with AI whereas I'm using a hybrid approach where I use AI to break down problems and manually code/fix myself - even though my work is doing what it should and is providing value, I'm feeling behind b/c I'm not moving "faster", which makes me feel less competent than everybody else.

I am interested in the subject matter expertise of my work and the projects we will be working on, but I'm still very new to my team - I feel like the newest employee with a senior title (everybody is is principal or up) and not sure how to move forward or grow. I notice a few people on my team who have been stuck at same level for years.

I'm wondering if I should pivot to product or leave data and move into a clinical role altogether. Data science has been a core of what I've done in my career that I don't exactly know how to pivot elsewhere.
