Are there ways to accurately tell if young apisto trifasciatas are male or female?

I wish I took pictures. My LFS got a small batch of them in and I really want to get a pair. This would be my first attempt at keeping them so I'm not so familiar with their tells yet.

The owner put a cave in the tank and told me he would let me know if he sees a pair form but I'm afraid I'm going to miss out on getting them.
