Why Do GPU Manufacturers Keep Providing the 12VHPWR Adapter Despite the Risks?
I’ve seen a lot of talk lately about the 12VHPWR adapter that comes with GPUs, and it seems like every other comment is someone warning about how it might melt or catch fire. Honestly, those concerns aren’t unfounded. There have been enough reports and incidents to make anyone nervous about using them.
But here’s what I’m really curious about: If these adapters are so risky and have such high failure rates, why do companies continue to include them in the box? It feels like they’re aware of the potential issues yet still make the decision to ship GPUs with these faulty adapters.
Are they cutting costs? Relying on the fact that not everyone will experience issues? Or maybe they believe that the majority of users will be fine and the adapter has served its purpose? Would love to hear your thoughts on this! It just seems strange to me that they would continue to offer an accessory that could potentially lead to damage or safety hazards.
