Leaksmart Water Valve... Can I remove the batteries?

I've had this leaksmart water valve for years, and it's awesome. The battery backup is almost dead, and I think I might be SOL, but does this look like I'm not gonna be able to remove the batteries? I have gotten the battery compartment door off, but I feel like the batteries are inside a holder, and the way this is positioned that I might be SOL.

Anyone familiar?
