I don't know how to act 29M with my 27F ex, we have a kid together and a 4-year history.
Me 29M and my ex 27F, met 4 years ago and instantly hit it off. We were madly in love and decided to have a baby together. Everything was extremely promising until I made a mistake and ruined all of it. As time progressed, we slowly created distance between each other but never fully detached, as in we still had occasional sex, we showered together, got naked in front of each other, and touched each other's "parts" daily. We would hang out pretty much every single day and just operate as "exs" with a little more, you know?
Things were going great, but it got to a point where we would get into really bad arguments, and certain things wouldn't go back to the way they were, but the aspect of touching would still be there. After our most recent argument, that's where things really changed. She told me that she just wanted to be friends without the physical aspect. She didn't want any more touching or seeing each other naked, just strictly operate as friends would. This is where I'm struggling now.
I completely understood that there was no chance of another relationship; however, I was really happy just living in the reality that we were and just grateful that I could even have that with her. I'm now at a crossroads of trying to figure out what to do. I can't help but feel terrible anytime I'm around her, knowing that our connection is different now and struggling to let go of it. I know that I can't act the same with her, and it makes it hard for me to be normal around her, which inevitably creates a negative energy that just makes hanging out unbearable. I obviously know that I need to get rid of whatever connection I have inside regarding her. She still wants to hang out all the time and do things together with our kid and be "normal" in that aspect, but I feel like I won't be able to without feeling the pain of the lost connection. I have two options that I'm faced with, and I'm not sure which path to take. Do I just continue to try and be friends with her and hang out all the time just like normal and just hope that my feelings disappear, or completely cut the connection to strictly co-parents and only talk when it's about our child?
