Vacation with in-laws
My in-laws came to visit for 10 days. The first couple of days were okay, but after that I got pretty drained. I had to hang out with them a lot without my husband since he couldn’t take more time off work. And even though I’m at home right now, I still have my own stuff to deal with, so it wasn’t exactly chill for me.
My MIL (a housewife too) kept telling me I shouldn’t stay home so much and kept asking, “Don’t you get bored staying at home while your husband is at work?” I didn’t even know what to say. I actually like being at home although, I do miss working sometimes.
One day I invited them over and cooked a dish from my country. She seemed impressed, but barely ate any of it. Meanwhile at restaurants she eats a full plate with no problem, so I was kinda like…okay then sorry my food isn’t as healthy as your salads I guess.
Then they decided to stay 3 nights near a ski area. They paid, so my husband asked me to come along. I went, but honestly by then my social battery was already gone. There were moments we were all squeezed into the car in total silence, or they’d all just talk in their own language and I’d sit there not understanding anything. FIL really hate to speak in English.
At one point, one of his siblings tried to teach me some of their language and put on English songs for me and suddenly my FIL got annoyed and just went “SHUSSSHHH” at her and turned off the radio just because he was frustrated with Google Maps. I was so shocked, I just sat there smiling awkwardly.
Sometimes I really wish I didn’t have to go along with everything, but I don’t really have a good excuse unless I’m actually sick. They also know I don’t eat pork, but still took me to a market full of pork stuff. I just followed along. Same at restaurants, FIL always orders pork and alcohol like it’s a must every time.
Anyway, sorry for the long rant 😅 thanks for listening.
