Muddy dash - potential scam

So my mum friends have signed up for Muddy dash, and has asked me to attend. We paid a couple of months in advance.

Then yesterday they emailed and said the event has been postponed for another 60 days. They said its the venue fault.

I have contacted them for a refund and they said they will not refund. Instead they have put me as confirmed for a future date (without any details)

I should have googled, because I found out the organizer seems to have been running muddy dash and then cancelled using the same reasons. They did it in Vancouver, Phoenix etc.

I can do credit card charged back so no issue for me. But some of my mums friends paid with debit so they are currently stuck with no refund.
