I need help knowing if it's time to walk away...
First: please no judgement.
My ex with BPD (now friend) and I are currently in a friendship stage. We ended things due to him reaching out to exes, gaslighting me, etc. We weren't together.
The good news: It finally got him to seek therapy.
He has no support system and I told him although there's no trust right now, I want to support him and we can stay friends.
Well, in that time he's been dysregulated af. I've told him right now we both need to heal and just grow and appreciate the friendship for what it is.
After a therapy session, we were supposed to hang out and we've been getting along well but he calls me and says "I can't do this. I'm going to hurt you. You want to work things out and I'm not ready for that. I need to heal."
It shocked me since I had very clearly told him that wasn't what I wanted, however, this isn't the first time we've had this conversation. He gets escalated, calms down, and 2 days-1 week later he reaches out and he misses me and loves me.
I love him very much but tbh I don't know how much longer I can do this push/pull especially since right now we're not even in a relationship.
He calmed down after sobbing (about things completely unrelated) and I'm so torn. On one hand, I believe when people say who they are, believe them but I know how he gets when he is flooded.
But is he? Or is he truly just telling me "I'm going to hurt you. Run."? Should I just take him at his word and walk away?
