My fellow Reinhardt mains, I gave up

When I first started playing Overwatch and decided to play the tank role, my favorite heroes were always Junker Queen and Reinhardt. I would rotate between those two, but as time went by, Reinhardt became my main. It felt like I could be more helpful to my team with him than I could with Queen, who felt more like a DPS with extra health and self healing.

So I kept playing Rein in quick play until I felt I was good enough to use him in ranked. However, as I kept ranking up, I started to struggle more and more with Reinhardt because, let’s be honest, he is not that strong, and most tanks can run him over. I managed to climb all the way to Diamond with Rein, but that is as far as I could go with him.

There were moments where I wanted to pull my hair out from how frustrating it was playing in Diamond, where I felt completely useless unless the enemy tank was playing Zarya. Even then, it did not take long before they switched to Ramattra, or a DPS countered me.

After being stuck in Diamond or even dropping all the way back to Gold, I decided to try 6v6. Reinhardt felt much better there since you did not have all the pressure of being the only tank on the team. I started enjoying playing him again and even made it to Diamond, just like I did in 5v5.

But once again, when I reached Diamond, all the same problems came back. Most tanks run him over, and it only takes one DPS to counter him. His kit just feels useless above metal ranks.

There is no way Blizzard did not know how much they would hurt him with the addition of Ramattra. All tanks have counters, but Ramattra is by far the worst. He can just transform and run you down, and there is nothing you can do about it. Unlike other tanks with shields, Reinhardt’s shield is tied to his arm, and on top of that, he gets a 30 percent movement speed reduction, which makes no sense in my opinion.

Meanwhile, Orisa has Fortify, which makes her immune to critical damage and crowd control, and helps her survive or escape ultimates like Sigma’s or Zarya’s and she only gets a 10 percent movement speed reduction.

On top of that, the only change Reinhardt gets is something like increasing his ultimate cost. They even added perks to some heroes’ base kits, but for some reason did not do the same for Reinhardt. For example, his shield bash could have been added to his main kit. It would not make him viable above metal ranks, but it would at least be a nice buff.

After struggling for so long with Reinhardt and almost losing my mind trying to rank up with him, I just gave up. There are better tanks, and playing them does not cost you your sanity. I have had a much easier time ranking up with them.

Blizzard announced that they would rework some classic heroes, besides the ones already announced like Sombra, Lifeweaver, and Roadhog. I really hope Reinhardt is one of them. I do not know how they will rework him, but I hope it makes him viable above metal ranks. If that happens, I will definitely come back to playing him. For now, I will stick to other tanks.
