Accidentally killed someone

I did not want to put a "stalin approves" tag but I had to put a tag to make this post.

In 2020 I was coming home from the methadone clinic (clean from it now) and had been dosed too high. Spaced out and ran a red light, hit him right in his driver side door. I was going 40 to 50 mph. He died instantly. He was 48, Laotion. I was arrested for felony DUI resulting in death which carries a minimum of 1 and maximum of 25 years in prison or house arrest (the average sentence people in there with my charge got was 18 years in prison, and have to do 85% of it and then probation for like 5 years...)

I was 21, trying to get off of heroin. Methadone and thc were in my pee, and of course the jail made me cold turkey off of the methadone. My blood pressure was 210 over 130 at one point and they just gave me a clonidine for like 3 days. (The withdrawal doesn't even start BAD until like 7 to 14 days.... and lasts about a month physically, and 3 months mentally, just from not even a year of being on it, (8 or 10 months)

I was on house arrest, got LUCKY a FEW times. (I was up to no good still a little bit) but then after 18 months they got me on a drug test. Spent 15 months in jail, finally did an open plea. I was sentenced to 25 years and a 21,100$ fine, the MAX. (my dad spent 20k on my lawyer and almost jumped up and attacked him) until the judge said "suspended to 4 years in prison with a 10,000 fine, with time served for the house arrest and jail. So I had to go to prison and did about 8 months.

Somehow they let me off probation last September but I never picked up an official paper so Im concerned because I tried to register to vote again (for the PSL) and they sent letters saying "our records show you are currently on probation, you need to call the probation office". But fuck no, Im scared they will try to say I violated somehow. My name is no longer on my state's probation list either, the public index says sentenced to 5 years probation. But probation themselves have me completely off of it.

TLDR;

But that was all just filler details. I felt HORRIBLE and still do, but at the plea, the family did NOT show up. They wrote a letter, and said "Bill was from Laos, and left because of the evil's of communism. Communism destroyed his country and he would have fought for the americans against vietnam and was ashamed he was born too late to fight." That right there made me feel good about what happened. Is that bad?
