I have made a list of what I think the summer rankings could possibly look like just based on the three majors that we have had so far this year. This list is pretty rough, due mostly to lack of tourneys so far. It’s ordered pretty much how I want near the top, and gets less certain as it goes down. I split the list into categories:
Top category is top 10 caliber players that have been to at least two events so far. The list here only shows placements, but I did take into account strength of wins and losses when I ordered this list. (For example, soonsay got 3rd at genesis which would normally place him around zain or salt, but his only top 10 caliber wins are hungrybox and trif if you count him, while every other player in that top section has at least 3 wins on other players in that top 10 list. RapM makes this category due to strength of wins, despite lack of results.)
Second small category is top 10 caliber players that have only been to one event so far. SluG and Trif would most likely be placed around top 10, but can’t really be ranked right now due to lack of data. Unfortunately, neither of them are going to pat’s house, so they will stay in this section for now.
Third category is players who have been to multiple events and have one top 8 or multiple 9ths. These players will most likely end up around the 10-20 range. I think I ordered them well, but could probably be convinced to swap a few around.
Fourth category is players who have placed decently well at at least one major and have been to multiple majors. It is hard to guess where these players will land, as more data is needed to split hairs at this level. They have potential to be ranked fairly high due to their decently strong results.
Last category is players who placed decently well at one major but haven’t been to any others. There are some heavy hitters in here who just had a rough genesis and weren’t at other majors, so I will be looking forward to place them higher as the year goes on.
Let me know if I missed anyone or if you would make a case for swapping some people around. (I know putting zain at 7th will probably get me burned at the stake but the numbers don’t lie… a good pats house should bump him up considerably though.)
