Ball tampering

Did bowlers like Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Waqar Younis etc take so many wickets due to ball tampering?

No doubt they were skillful bowlers but I think that they'd have taken lesser wickets if there was no ball tampering.

Thoughts?
