Brother threatening to kill my stepdad

Hey all. My stepdad has been slowly remodeling his and my mom’s house over the past few years. Well, two years ago, my mom got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. So now with my mom no longer working and needing treatment all the time, it’s been a lot harder for my stepdad to keep the ball rolling on the already slow moving remodel.

My brother lives across the country and works as a pilot and has barely spent any time over here to spend time with our dying mother. Well, my mom is starting to get close to not being alive a lot longer, so my brother came and made an appearance and stayed with my mom for like a week. I guess my brother went and bought a bunch of furniture for my mom’s house, since it was pretty empty. Everyone went over and had dinner as a family and I thought everything was fine.

Well, after my brother went home, I guess he called my stepdad. Calling him lazy , saying the house needs to be finished so our mom can have somewhere nice to live, and said that my stepdad owes him 40,000 dollars and said he (my brother) would kill him (my stepdad) if he (again my stepdad) didn’t pay it. So I guess my brother called contractors to work on the house too, so between that and the furniture, that’s the 40,000

So I guess like what the fuck? My brother has always been an asshole and talking about killing someone is not new territory for him. He’s gotten crazier as time goes on and talking shit to our stepdad is a new level of crazy, even for him. His girlfriend cheated on him late 2024 and I know he said he was going to kill her but my mom talked him out of it.

To be honest, I’m kindof scared. I don’t know what might happen. I think he might mean it when he is saying he’s going to kill him.

Tha conversation wasn’t written or recorded so no record of it other than”he said she said” so would the cops actually be able to do anything? Especially give the fact that my brother lives in another state across the country? Granted he’s a pilot so he can get over here super quick and easy.

I know he’s doing trenbolone and cocaine and likes to drink so I don’t think any of that is helping his deranged behavior. He’s always been crazy but the past few years it’s gotten bad. I want him in prison at this point. I don’t think he’s mentally fit to operate aircraft.

What would you do? Can I even report this to the police if it wasn’t something I was even involved in? If he goes to prison, can he inherit anything from when my mom passes?
