Goin Backwards In The 10k

Open Discussion

Hey guys. This season was kind of a rollercoaster for me. I was building up to this 10k for our conference meet and felt super prepared (fueled properly, great sleep, tapered) and yet I managed to run a whole minute slower than my time last year. For reference I managed to lower my 5k from 15:38 to 15:27 this outdoor track season and ran a 32:40 10k as of last year. This most recent meet I ran a 33:30. I run on average 75 weekly miles with 16-18 mile long runs. I keep my easy runs easy and do workouts Tuesday and Thursdays (usually competing on Saturdays). I also strength train twice a week. I’m really not sure where I went wrong and how I managed to lower my 5k time but nothing else. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I’m kind of feeling pretty discouraged and defeated after a long season of hard work. Thanks 🙏🏼
