Am i going insane? Or is the "Disable Auto-Pin feature not working?

Am i misunderstanding this feature? I thought if i pressed E to disable autopin, the game would stop pinning a quest when i close the map. On my side, when i disable autopin, close the map, reopen the map and close it one more time, autopin kicks in, but still shows that it's off when i reopen the map again.

What gives? It's really frustrating.
