Hi everyone,

I’m Abishek , a BE (ECE) graduate from Tamilnadu , and I’m feeling quite stuck in my career right now, so I wanted to share my journey and get some honest advice.

During college, I was interested in design. Alongside my academics, I started learning graphic design, but my main focus was still VLSI. In my final year, I reached a point where I had to choose between VLSI and design. Since I genuinely enjoyed designing more, I decided to move into UI/UX.

I spent around 3 months self-learning UI/UX through YouTube and practice projects. I really enjoyed the process and felt confident about this path. After graduation, I joined a startup as a UI/UX intern, where I gained good hands-on experience for about 3 months. At the same time, I was also exploring digital marketing on the side.

Unfortunately, the startup ran into funding issues and laid off interns, including me.

After that, I focused on building my portfolio and started applying for UI/UX jobs daily. I also completed multiple assignments (and unfortunately encountered quite a few scams). Alongside this, I did some freelance work, but I’m still struggling to land a full-time UI/UX role as a fresher.

Because of this, I recently decided to switch towards development and started learning coding to improve my chances of getting a job.

Now I feel confused and stuck between paths.

My questions:

\- Should I continue focusing on UI/UX and keep trying for jobs?

\- Or should I fully switch to development and build a career there?

\- Is it okay to have this kind of switch early in my career?

\- What would you do if you were in my position?

I’m willing to work hard, but I want to make a smart decision instead of wasting more time.

Any advice, guidance, or even tough truths would really help.

Thanks for reading.

Struggling to land my first job (UI/UX → Dev switch). Need honest advice.
