Lot of people struggling with phone addiction, but what about computers?
Hi all, my dilemma nowadays is that I spend too much time before screens, and not specifically phone, but a desktop PC.
My life revolved around PC-s, IT High School, BSc and MSc CompSci, 8 hour work also system analyst, so I'm heavily drawn into these things.
The problem is: My study, work, and hobbies are ALL around computers. So if we count schoolwork and 9-5 work into the mix, I spend 12-14+ hours before screens nearly every day, and I'm starting to realize that this is definitely too much.
I wouldn't call myself addicted, because I can easily let go if I go out, leave for some days or have anything else to do, it's more like a default behavior for me, so if I'm home => I'm in front of the PC for whatever reason. Srolling, reddit, youtube, news etc.
Since HighSchool I have been playing a ton of different games, which kinda demanded the presence of a semi-powerful device, but that amount drastically dropped during uni, and now it's like 6 min in the past 2 weeks and the games I enjoyed back then don't get me hooked anymore. Also I'm graduating (sent in the thesis yesterday) so it's not even for schoolwork anymore.
I was thinking how can I reduce my screentime and now that I have no study duty, start to actually learn something else. (a language, learn to cook etc).
I thought that if I sell my PC and only use my laptop so it would add in a ton of friction (they are uncomparable by performance), but the things I'll be doing now would be 99.5% covered by the laptop. And it can do anything the PC could, but slower and with more fuss.
What do you think what should be the first step?
Thank you for any advice in advance!
