Planning on asking my therapist about possible autism but very anxious to do so
I was talking with this guy who was diagnosed with autism and he said that he thinks I might be on the spectrum. And he said girls often get underdiagnosed too. The past few days I've been thinking very deeply and researching, and thinking about all the signs in my childhood and early development and a lot of things seem to line up but of course they could be due to other reasons too so I'm still exploring.
I want to at least bring up the possibility but feel extremely scared about asking her, I don't know why. I am in DBT therapy and while I havent been formally diagnosed as having BPD, I got told by a few psychiatrists as a possibility, and for the past 2 years I've just been thinking I have quiet BPD (I dont show the typical signs of BPD either, it's all mostly internalized, a lot of therapists and psychologists in the past immediately dismissed BPD as a possibility even when I brought it up) so I am just with a dbt therapist working on emotional dysregulation and some other things. but ever since that guy said that I've been researching more about autism spectrum disorder and there's a lot I didn't know about, that I resonate with so much.
Has anyone been in a similar position and were you also scared of bringing it up to someone? What helped you overcome the fear and just say it?
