Questions about ehlersdanlos
Hello! I have a few questions regarding EDS and its subtypes, as well as HSD. Please don't mind my grammar and spelling, im very tired from my various conditions and cant really comprend good grammar right now.
With the recent events regarding the ehlers danlos society im a little confused. Are the two joint conditions really the same? I was told when I was first getting diagnosed that HSD was just for joints and hEDS was recognized as affecting more than just your joints. For many reasons i do not trust what the doctors said so im more so curious on the differences if there are any, but it would also make sense to me if they are the same condition in a spectrum. It would actually explain a lot for me as my mom is slightly hypermobile but not enough that it gets in the way of daily life. My sibling is also the same, this runs in the family but im the only one with hEDS. No one else has symptoms like mine, just the minor hypermobility.
Though that brings me to my next question, is hEDS related to the other subtypes? And why are they in the same group? Is it because of symptoms? I know my hEDS has a wide range of symptoms, for one while my skin isnt stretchy its thin and tears easily, it also has affected my eyes making them very flexible. I can see through nearly any glasses prescription (haven't found any I couldn't see through yet, eye doctor was having fun experimenting lol). I also have the classic GI issues and those little fatty nodules on my heels. On some days my joints are the least of my concerns, especially with POTS. Im mostly wondering if there is any symptom overlap that may have put it under the EDS umbrella. I mostly just want to know more, I haven't had time to do as much research as I want to.
Just as a final note as there are a lot of emotions running high (especially with how these changes will cause a mess with some insurance coverages), this post is mostly asking about how these conditions work and understanding the symptoms. I also wouldn't mind hearing people's experiences with any of these conditions as I'd definitely like to learn more about the subtypes. Also thank you to the mods for putting the information together on the ehlersdanlos society, I forced my mom to read it since she was confused.
