25, 6 weeks pregnant and in a transitional stage of life — would appreciate honest experiences from both sides
I’m 25 and just found out I’m around 6 weeks pregnant. I feel very conflicted and wanted to hear honest experiences from women who either kept the baby or chose to terminate when they were in a transitional stage of life and didn’t fully feel “ready.”
I’ve only recently started getting my life back on track. I currently work part-time in airline grounds crew while studying nursing because I wanted a more stable long-term career with secure pathways. I’m still very early into my degree and only recently started building momentum for my future.
I also have a family cleaning business, but at the moment my dad handles a lot of the operational side while I contribute where I can and try to become more financially independent. Financially, I’m not in crisis, but I’m also not fully established yet either. I’m still rebuilding stability, managing existing debt/responsibilities, and trying to create a secure future for myself long term.
My relationship has had a rocky history in the past and I struggled with trust. Though things have become a lot more stable and mature recently. My partner is financially stable, supportive, and wanting to move forward seriously, but because of our history I still sometimes question whether I’m truly ready to bring a child into the situation yet.
A huge part of this for me is that I don’t feel fully established in myself yet. I’ve never naturally felt strongly maternal, and because of my upbringing and life experiences, I’ve always focused more on building stability, independence, and my own future first. Sometimes I worry that I’m not emotionally ready for motherhood yet, even though I also understand there’s rarely a completely perfect time to have a child.
I’m not looking for judgment or political arguments. I genuinely want honest experiences from women who:
- kept the baby despite not feeling fully ready
- or terminated because they knew it wasn’t the right time
How did things turn out long term emotionally, financially, career-wise, and in your relationship/life overall?
What do you wish you understood before making your decision?
