Competitor Spike Strategy
I’ve been studying competitor channels pretty deeply over the last few weeks, and I noticed an interesting pattern.
When a video suddenly performs way above a channel’s average (like 4–6x more views), it often happens within the first few hours. And if you catch that early, there’s usually a small window where similar content can still ride the momentum.
I tried experimenting with this:
- Tracking a few competitors manually
- Watching for sudden spikes in views
- Quickly creating content around similar angles/topics
Result: some videos performed noticeably better than my usual uploads.
I’m curious how others approach this:
- Do you track competitor spikes or just rely on general trends?
- How fast do you move when you notice something taking off?
- Do you think timing matters more than originality in these cases?
Would love to hear how you guys handle this.
