Iwi in Monarch Season 2

Was just rewatching Kong: Skull Island after finishing the finale today and completely forgot about the Iwi people that live on the island. Planning on rewatching all the movies now and I see the KOTM rumors that they were wiped out in 2019, but.. wouldn’t someone have noticed them when the gang was on Skull Island in 2017?

With all that commotion and running around I feel like they would have stumbled on.. at least something. Am I missing anything?
