Letter grading scales should not include pluses or minuses.
Grading scales that use letters (A-F or the equivalent thereof) should not include pluses or minuses. For instance, an A- should be worth the same (GPA-wise) as an A. Same for the other letters (excluding a failing grade, of course).
My university identifies *both* an A and an A- as a student demonstrating understanding of course material to an excellent degree. If they’re both lumped together under the same definition, why would they not be treated the same?
My university also doesn’t do A+’s. Another pertinent query: if we’re really dissecting the A-range into an A and A-, why would we not further dissect it to include the A+ range, too? This applies to all other letter grades, too.
