This shouldn't have happened

Discussion & Info

I play all my games on easy. I'm not kidding, everything goes on baby easy mode just so I can get through the story. 'I don't care much about gameplay', is what my friends are used to me saying. I enjoy a good power fantasy and a story. So what on earth am I doing in this sub.

I'm here because I was wrong. We'll get to that. I played maybe 2 hours of Souls games in the past (DS3 and Bloodborne), decided it definitely wasn't for me, and moved on with my life. But ER gave me a tickle. Something about the look of the world drew me in to give it a go all these years after release.

My Google search history has a lot of 'why can't I kill a single boss in Elden Ring' and 'why am I objectively bad at ER' from when I first got the game. Some of these searches led me to this sub, and the best advice I read was to just go somewhere else if you can't get past something. Just go explore, have fun. So I did, and I stuck with it.

And then it clicked. I didn't look up a build at all so I ended up with a weird strength/dex/VERY high endurance build. My strategy for gear was 'big blue numbers good'. I had no idea what a 'fat roll' was, so I just became really good at blocking with a big shield with big blue numbers. Started killing bosses on first or second attempts. Started looking for challenges. Killed Malenia after only 5 attempts. Fire Giant in two. Elden Beast in 10. Never summoned help. Didn't look much up except some crazy obscure quest steps, but did need a strategy for the Beast, that thing was kicking my ass.

This game actually made me look at games in a different light. Something I'm assuming all Souls players have already gone through. Where it makes you a better player, tickles a part of your brain that other games just don't. I think after decades of just kind of playing them passively, I want to feel this again. The DLC is next. Maybe I'll give Bloodborne another go soon.

Thanks for listening to me rant. Just wanted this out there. What a game. Damn.
