Surviving on disability in my area

In my area the cost of survival has been increasing drastically over the last decade - yet disability benefits do NOT increase. With my monthly check before I could afford rent of a one bedroom house, food, phone, meds, and animal supplies, usually having some left over so I could get things like clothes or toilet paper etc.

Now my check barely covers rent. Luckily I’m on the waiting list for housing back in my home town and that will drastically help me with finances.

But not everyone can do that. Not everyone can get food help/pantry help. A ton of people I know can’t even get meds cuz they can’t afford or qualify for insurance help like I can. But I only have half and have been waiting over a year for the second one after THEY turned it off for NO reason.

It makes me so upset that those of us with chronic illnesses are told we need proof we can’t work, yet either don’t “qualify” or don’t receive enough benefits to survive thus making us have to work, and get WORSE. It’s a terrible cycle and I hate it for me and everyone else dealing with it!
