Issues with X-Mid 2
I bought an x-mid2 back in 2024 after hearing people rave about the tent on the AT, and all over the internet. I bought it and took it out on one weekend trip just to test it out, then I tucked it away to use one my thru hike.
Now I am on the PCT and having a terrible time with it. Half of the guy lines to stake out are all frayed, one snapped on us and we had to redo it, but I get it, those can rip just with wear and tear.
The inner mesh is ripping near the door, and we have a hole in the floor of the tent, but I get it, those things are fragile and we put leukotape on it and it is what it is.
But last night my inner mesh door zipper completely broke. The door will not zip at all now (it was already separating so I knew it was coming). And this is beyond what I’m willing to just deal with out here. If I wanted the bugs to sleep with me I would have a tarp!
All that said, I emailed the company and support got back to me saying find them an order number so they know what model I have and they will sell me a new inner for 40% off.
I find this a little ridiculous. I had a kakwa at the start of this trail, too, and it caused me such terrible back pain that I had to drop $400 on a new pack. I am now only 500 miles into the trail and have heard from multiple other X-Mid users that they had zipper issues and the company offered to fix them for free.
What’s everyone else’s experience? I’m really upset, maybe hot take but I think a tent zipper should last more than 500 miles. This feels like a manufacturer’s error and I don’t think it’s fair to put that on the customer.
