Life isn’t perfect, life isn’t fair but you can still make the most out of it.
30(F). Single. just reached 100K net worth, roughly 50% invested, 50% in savings. Living at home in my moms apartment to reach my financial goals quicker. I have to commute for an hour back and forth for work but it’s worth it. I’d rather do this now short term, to reap the benefits in the future. I invest 70% of what I make. I’m very fortunate to be able to do this.
Of course I pay my share of the rent, shop for groceries etc and I use this time to do things for my mom as well, because she never does anything for herself really. buying things she never buys herself, upgrading her glasses etc.
Im not dating right now which is a choice I’ve made for myself, knowing I have no energy to socialize with this commute, and weekends are for getting my energy back, doing chores etc. It’s also because I haven’t had friends since around high school really and I have come to the conclusion that you can’t just drop this casually on a date without coming off as a red flag. I have a great family and hang out with my siblings so I m not isolated or anything but making friends has been difficult and it’s been getting even more difficult over the years. I try my best but I also know I can’t make someone my friend, most people are not actively looking and so I make the most out of the interactions I have but expect nothing to happen. I have great coworkers etc. so I’m not unhappy or depressed. I’ve learned to make the most out of life in spite of not having certain things (friends, a relationship..) and honestly I feel great. Leaning into feature makes you realize that you can’t live life to the fullest and that you don’t have to wait.
I dated briefly for one summer when I was 26/27. But that’s it. Tried the apps and said never again. I did it mainly because of older sister telling me i had to start or I’ll be alone forever. I met maybe 4 guys on a first date, one guy I went of two dates with but nothing sitting happened after that. While talking to these guys and hearing about their lives, friends and what they do for fun I realized I’m the odd one here. I dreaded the question so what are your friends like? Because I had no answer to it. My sister told me “oh the right one will accept you” but lets be real, if I was a guy on a date with a girl telling me she has no friends I wouldn’t want to see her again. It raises too many concerns. So I stopped dating after that and worked on my self esteem because it was pretty much non existent at that time. After that I went through health issues and let all of that go. There are way worse things in life than being single or not having friends. It took me being sick to actually understand the meaning of this. today I’m healthy, working and choosing to focus on the good things in life.
I have no idea when I’ll make new friends, or if I’ll ever have a relationship. I’m OK with that. As outsiders looking in, people around me are afraid I might end up alone forever, people ask me about having kids etc knowing im not even dating right now and that I’ve never had a relationship before. I can’t afford having a kid, I live with my mom. but more than that I don’t want that responsibility at this point in my life. Kids deserve parents who want them and are invested in them 100%, and I’m not there yet and so the answer is no. Everything I’m doing right now is temporary btw. Routines will change, I won’t live with my mom forever, I’ll make a friend or two at some point, I might meet someone…These are not guarantees but not everything is set in stone. Things can just BE for now. Thats my point. As long as you know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, you’re on the right track. This is your life in the end.
IDK felt like writing this down, maybe it’ll help someone out there.
