He said he "prefers my look without glasses" while he himself wears only glasses (no contacts). How do you navigate a situation where someone else is being hypocritical?
I (30F) have known this guy since childhood, like literally 20 years. We’ve always kept in touch on and off.
I didn’t really start wearing glasses consistently until college. Growing up I used them mostly in class, then switched to contacts once I started working full time. Right now I’m back in glasses because I ran out of contacts and I’m waiting on a new prescription.
Recently he asked when I got my glasses. I told him last year and mentioned my prescription is mild (-1.5 in each eye). I asked about his since he also wears glasses and works in healthcare, and he couldn’t even answer.
Then out of nowhere he said he prefers me without glasses.
It just felt unnecessary and kind of off to me, especially coming from someone who wears glasses himself. Also after knowing each other this long, it’s weird that our interactions can still feel this surface level and awkward.
I’m not even that upset about the comment itself, it just made me look at the dynamic differently.
Other than just distancing myself, how would you handle something like this?
