How to start?

So my partner and I may be moving down to Grand Blanc, MI. I am looking to find a spring/summer hobby for myself as my partner is a bowler.

How does one start disc golfing? What should I look for when buying my first discs? (Is that the term for your equipment? 😅). My friends go every now and then near Belding but I just don’t live close enough to them currently to join them and see what it’s all about but I really would like to find a hobby for myself that *shouldnt* break the bank (the amount we spend on bowling tournaments and balls makes me cringe LOL). I’m not interested in tournaments or the like, just something I can do in the summer and maybe a league if those exist?
