Crawl Space Queetion
I recently moved into a house from the 90s. I live in a northern cold/dry climate.
The crawl space is currently vented. It was built with insulated concrete forms so there is insulation on the foundation walls. There is no insulation below the floor, no insulation on the pipes or ducting. There is a vapor barrier on the floor of the crawl space. This current configuration sounds wrong or is at least inefficient right?
Currently there is an old 80% gas furnace in there that I am getting replaced. I am getting a new 80% furnace as well as AC installed.
The HVAC tech recommended adding a register into the crawl space to condition it. This also sounds wrong because then there would be negative pressure inside the house.
I’m just curious what the best plan is for this crawlspace. It sounds like we can’t fully encapsulate it unless we got a HE furnace. Keeping it vented to the outside I’d think would mean adding insulation between the floor joists as well as pipes and ducting.
What is the best plan here?
