Focus on local businesses first?

Hey reddit,

I am beginning a marketing campaign where I cold call/email 10 businesses a day for my startup. Should I target local businesses first or does it not matter? I am hesitant to call/email a dentist office half way across the country, whereas if I go local I'll actually be able to meet up and form a better relationship. Have people found going local first helps or does it not matter?
