Active Duty won’t take me, will I have a chance with guard?

Have a violent felony (3rd degree aggravated assault) that was dismissed and expunged when I was a minor. Spent a while trying to get in active, but was told recently I likely won’t be accepted. Any idea if I’ll have a chance in guard? My recruiter told me it’s worth a shot. Looking for any insight, thanks in advance.
