Disappointed in my "friend"
So long story short, I have been friends with this one girl for years now. I would've considered her to be my best friend but lately I have been thinking about our relationship and if I'm more of a friend to her than her to me. Or if I'm simply overthinking it.
Without giving any incriminating details, we both live in the same city. Matter of fact we live about 10 minutes from one another. I've been living in the same area as her for the past 3 years. My first apartment she only came to once and that was for us to go to a bar. This new apartment is even closer to her (not on purpose ๐) and she hasn't came and visited me once. But when we do hangout I always go to her apartment, she has never asked to come see my new place, never brought me a gift, never even said congratulations. She seemed...jealous? She would bring up how her and her baby daddy looked at those apartments but cant afford it. Which I understand but she has also said "yeah I pass by those apartments all the time, theres this store I go to over there" Is it wrong for me to think, "Wow and none of those times you never asked for me to come see you and let you look? Or just say hi?"
I tried to be a good friend towards her and her kids. I remember asking her what her children likes to play with, she answered "anything my kids simple" which ok cool but there has to be something specific? She couldn't tell me nothing and its not like I see the kids enough to get to know them even though I do want to.
There was moments building up against her from throughout the years of her "declining" (she wouldnt outright say no, she goes silence in response then hit me with an excuse later) my invites to do something. But she expects me to say yes to whatever she wants to do with her. (Usually go to a bar where its nothing but fighting and very judgemental group where her baby dad's friends hang out) like she has no interest in doing what I would deem is fun and she won't even try it.
Anyway, it came to a head when she said she put time away for my birthday to hang out. (oh I had to remind her to tell me happy birthday. ) I saw there was a drag show happening and I always wanted to go to one. So I told her about it, she asked where and when, I told her. She said ok. Im thinking "oh word she'll go?" So I ask her and she's like "oh it's not my thing they scare me but you have fun" which ok..she doesn't have to go, but it hurts because I try to show up for her even when I dont want to go to the places she's going to. Because that's what friends do if they can they show up to support.
I have tried many times BEFORE and AFTER her children was born to hang out but it doesn't stick. It feels like she's not putting in effort on her end to be my friend but she's quick to introduce me to others "oh this is my best friend!" Yet she'll also throw out "We LIVE NEAR each other but we dont see each other a lot" like as if she wants me to take the blame for the lack of hanging out?
Just all weird there's more examples but I can't say too much. I need opinions. Have you ever experienced a one sided friendship?
