May 9 Narc Club: Core | Topic: Fool Me Once (Betrayal)

Resources

Saturday | 11 am – 1 pm EST | via Zoom

FACILITATORS: Max + TBD

DISCUSSION PROMPTS:

  • What does ‘betrayal’ mean to you personally? What do you think makes something cross that line (ie, instead of just being hurtful or disappointing)?
  • Think of a time you felt deeply betrayed. How did that experience shape how you relate to people now? Examples: feeling more guarded, acting more controlling, becoming more avoidant.
  • On the flip side: think of a time you betrayed someone else. How did you justify your behavior at that time? How do you conceptualize it now?
  • Have you ever felt betrayed because someone stopped idealizing you or seeing you a certain way — or because they set a boundary? Elaborate.
  • How does self-betrayal (aka self-abandonment) show up in your life? Examples: people-pleasing behavior, denying/minimizing your needs, pretending not to give a fuck, pretending to care, etc.
  • Have you ever felt betrayed within this community itself? What happened, and what did it mean to you in the moment? (No names; focus on your experience only)=
