Broke a pin on my Ryzen 5700X3D – CPU still works but no dual channel. Can it be fixed?

Help (CPU)

Hey, I want to share my experience and also ask for advice.

First: I bought this CPU from AliExpress and it’s legit. It shows correctly in CPU-Z and works.

Now the problem: even though I tried to be careful, I ended up breaking a pin.

This happened because of the cooler/backplate situation. I didn’t fully understand how the backplate worked (forgot it existed) so I removed and reinstalled the CPU multiple times.

The cooler kept sticking to the CPU due to the thermal paste, and while trying to deal with the screws (which honestly felt terribly designed), all that movement eventually caused a pin to snap.

Ironically, after all that, I actually learned how to properly install/remove a cooler… but at the cost of a broken pin.

Here’s the interesting part:

-The CPU still works

-But I lost one memory channel

-It won’t boot in dual channel (A2 + B2)

-It does boot if I put both sticks side by side, giving me 32GB but at ~1400 MHz (no dual channel)

So basically: usable, but crippled.

I’ve contacted a technician who specializes in this kind of repair (he replaces pins from donor CPUs).

My question is:

If he successfully replaces the pin, is there a good chance I’ll get dual channel back?

Or is it usually a low success rate?

Also posting this in case it helps someone:

  1. AliExpress CPUs can be legit

  2. A CPU can still work with a broken pin

  3. But you might lose functionality like memory channels

Would really appreciate any insight 🙏
