What's the best lightweight affordable tech for doofuses with bad backs and rubbish jobs in the UK?

Laptop Request UK

Hiya,

I am shit with tech and hurt all over but reluctantly I have to work (booo). Can anyone help me work out what might be best for my situation? I'm finding it a minefield in terms of differences in specs and have been struggling to get UK specific advice.

I need something as lightweight as possible due to health issues (back, hands and generally exhausted)

It doesn't need to do too much - access the internet, access google docs/sheets and microsoft office. And also be able to run an open access word type application without internet access.

The software needs to be up to date and updateable for workplace demands.

And importantly, it needs to be cheap, really really cheap.

I don't know if a laptop or a 2-in-1 tablet would be better. I've tried searching online and reading previous threads on reddit but none of them have led me to anything that I am confident ticks all the boxes. Any words of wisdom?

Questionnaire below

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: £300 absolute max - ideally much much less than this
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Open to used as long as they are unlikely to become out of date in terms of operating systems updates in the next 3-5 years - due to demands from workplace regarding up to date operators when working from home
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? It doesn't need to be able to do that much - i am open to what works best for my needs
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? weight is really really important - i have issues with my back and my hands and i am always tired so the lighter the better!
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Not with this
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? no gaming
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? i dont think so, apart from above - lightweight, runs google docs and microsoft office, and open access word processing, able to be kept updated for work security processes, cheap as possible
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. thank you for your help! i am drowning in confusion
